SA8000

Factories are independently audited against a demanding standard that includes paying a living wage.

  • Counts as proof that workers are paid a living wage
  • Counts as an independent check of the supply chain

What it is

SA8000 is a factory certification from Social Accountability International. Factories must meet strict rules on wages, hours, health and safety and workers' rights, and they're checked by accredited auditors.

What it checks

  • Wages that meet workers' basic needs (a living wage)
  • Limits on working hours and overtime
  • Health and safety, and freedom to join a union
  • Independent, accredited audits

What it doesn't

  • It certifies individual factories, so a brand may use only a few certified factories
