Labour Lens

About Labour Lens

Labour Lens helps shoppers anywhere see how brands treat the people who make their products: whether they pay a living wage, respect workers' rights, keep them safe, and keep child and forced labour out of their supply chains.

Who runs it

Labour Lens is run by Anders Costelloe in Melbourne, Australia, who is also its editor. Anders built this website to learn which companies make their products without abusing the people who make them, and to choose to support those companies.

It's a personal, independent project. It isn't part of any company, retailer, certification scheme or campaign group.

How it's funded

No brand pays to be listed, rated or left out.

There is no advertising, and we earn nothing from “Visit website” links. If that ever changes, we'll say so, and it will never affect a grade.

How brands are researched

Each brand is researched from public evidence (company disclosures, certification registers, independent ratings, government lists, investigations and news) with the help of AI (Anthropic's Claude), then graded by fixed, published rules. Every brand page lists its sources and when it was last researched. How grading works

Anders spot-checks published brands on an ongoing basis, and reads every evidence submission, right of reply and message sent to Labour Lens. Brands researched automatically when a visitor asks for one we don't cover are marked Provisional until he has reviewed them.

Grades are our opinion of the evidence we found, at the date shown. They can be wrong or out of date, which is why we keep sources on every page and correct mistakes quickly.

Corrections and right of reply

Think a rating is wrong? Send us the evidence. Companies can use the right of reply form, which we publish on their page. All changes to companies’ grades are listed on the Grade Changes page with the reason for each.
