Privacy
Labour Lens uses no advertising and never sells your information. The only cookies set for visitors are for Google Analytics visitor statistics. You can use the site without an account.
Visitor statistics
We count page visits with Vercel Web Analytics to see which pages are used. It sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses or anything that identifies you; visits are counted with a short-lived anonymous code that resets every day. We also count how often each brand's “Visit website” button is clicked, as a plain daily total per brand.
On the website (not the phone app) we also use Google Analytics to see how people find and use the site. It sets cookies that give your browser a random ID, so repeat visits can be told apart, and Google records the pages you view, roughly where you are (city or country) and your device and browser type. Google doesn't log or store your IP address, and we've turned off its advertising features, so nothing is used for ads. You can block it with your browser's cookie settings or Google's opt-out add-on; the site works the same either way.
If you create an account
We keep your email address so we can send you sign-in links and codes. It is never shown to anyone. We also keep the brands you save, evidence you send us, and anything you post in the community under the display name you choose. You can delete your account from your account page: that removes your email address, saved brands and community posts straight away (threads other people have replied to stay, without your text, as by a former member). Evidence you sent is kept for research but no longer linked to you.
Searches and barcode answers
When you ask us to research a brand or answer a barcode question, we store a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of your IP address to limit misuse. It can't be turned back into your address.
If you take a photo of a label so the scanner can work out the brand, the photo is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to read the brand name and logo. We don't keep the photo, and barcode scanning itself never sends the camera picture.
On your device
Your sign-in and a few settings, such as the scanner preference, are kept in your browser's local storage (in the Labour Lens app, the app's own storage). Signing out or clearing site data removes them.
Who handles it
The site is hosted by Vercel and the data is stored with Supabase. Brand research and label photos are handled by Anthropic's Claude AI. Google handles the Google Analytics statistics. If a page breaks, an error report goes to Sentry so we can fix it, without your IP address or anything else that identifies you. We don't sell or share your information with anyone else.
