Labour Lens

MSC certified wild fish

An environmental label for wild fish from fisheries that aren't overfished. It has only light rules about crews.

How it counts towards a grade

  • Supportive: it counts in its favour but isn't proof on its own

What it is

The Marine Stewardship Council certifies wild fisheries that fish sustainably. Fishing companies convicted of forced labour are excluded, and boats must sign a declaration about how crews are treated, but crews aren't interviewed or audited.

What it checks

  • Fish stocks and the environment
  • Excludes companies convicted of forced labour

What it doesn't

  • Crews on the boats aren't audited
  • Says nothing about wages
