Almost good

Heading in the right direction. Workers are paid enough to live on, or the company is certified as working towards it, and there are no serious warning signs. One piece is still unproven.

A reasonable option, especially if there's no Good or Great alternative. Check back, as these brands often improve.

What it takes

  • Pays a living wage (proven, or assumed because it makes things in countries where legal wages meet one), or is certified as working towards one: Fair Wear, GOTS, the Fair Labor Association, a top Chocolate Scorecard rating or a public time-bound plan
  • No serious red flags: no forced or child labour, documented abuse or failing ratings
  • Either no red flags at all, or only one Good standard missing (usually independent supply chain audits)

How to move up

To reach Good: close the remaining gap, most often by getting the full supply chain independently audited or publishing its suppliers.
